I am Žiga Hriberšek, a fine artist. I create across various fields of visual expression: painting, illustration, graphic, and product design. My creative work is based on the conception of semantically multi-layered visual art artifacts, which invite the viewer into a dialogue through their figurative and stylistic openness. The artwork reveals itself on multiple levels. The surface layer, presented through the use of classical painting styles, creates the most fundamental semantic level of perception—a mimetic reality. In contrast to the artistic style, the meaning of the motifs is intentionally elusive and ambiguous, acting as a symbolic counterpoint to the composition. The whole does not possess a harmonious structure of unison where individual parts serve one another; rather, it manifests as an eternal struggle for the dominance of one component over another. This resulting internal instability is, in the final stage, externalized onto the creative process as a whole. A creative process that, through the act of depiction, seemingly leads to the creation of meaning. It is a search for the self-affirmation of an identity torn between the totality of nostalgic memory and a dissolving present.
