Mike began painting over 25 years ago, originally working in watercolours, painting landscapes and seascapes of the local area. His watercolours have been exhibited in local galleries, the Mall Galleries and solo exhibitions.
More recently he has turned to painting with oils, bringing his knowledge of painting form and light from watercolour landscapes to a different medium and now focussing largely on portraiture as a subject matter.
In his portraits Mike seeks to capture a strong sense of light and fleeting moments, a look or pose that subtly hints at the inner dialogue, mood or demeanour of the subject, that is often left to the viewer to interpret.
He has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Federation of British Artists and the Institute of East Anglian Artists, amongst others.
