Oil on canvas
120 x 180 x 10 cm
My practice explores the human condition through figurative painting, drawing on themes of faith, redemption, suffering, and hope. Working primarily in oil paint, I combine traditional techniques with contemporary concerns, using observation, narrative, and symbolism to create works that invite reflection and emotional engagement.
Classical training has given me a strong foundation in drawing, anatomy, light, and form, allowing me to use the figure as a vehicle for storytelling. I am particularly interested in moments of transformation—times when individuals confront loss, vulnerability, forgiveness, or personal change. Rather than illustrating religious narratives literally, I seek to reveal their enduring relevance to modern life and the universal experiences they represent.
The painting The Good Thief focuses on St Dismas, the repentant thief crucified alongside Christ. The work presents a story of grace and second chances. By placing emphasis on the thief rather than Christ, the painting invites viewers to consider themes of mercy, redemption, and the possibility of change, regardless of one's past. The work reflects my ongoing interest in creating paintings that are both technically accomplished and spiritually resonant, encouraging contemplation and dialogue beyond the surface image.
