Original one-off screen print

I’ve always had a fascination with plants and flowers. I grew up surrounded by beautiful gardens and thriving greenhouses. But it is not only the plants found in intentional places that interest me. I like the variety of those growing wild, found scattered on the edge of a wood or a walk along the coast, especially when captured during different lights throughout the day.
Many of my pieces explore the wider sense of a ‘garden.’ Some depict places in my native Scotland and others are loosely based on planted borders in my garden in Buckinghamshire. Most of my pieces have some sort of bramble or thorn within them. I see them as metaphors for life. Amongst the beauty of creation, (and we find incredible beauty in the plant world), we still find thorns and brambles representative of pain and suffering in each of our lives.
I hope that the way I use colour and light in my pieces enables the viewer to experience something of the beauty we find in the everyday ‘gardens’ in our lives.
Each screen print is a unique piece, more akin to a painting, there are no editions in my large scale work.
