Quilt
122 x 97 x 4 cm
2026
Strongly grounded in domestic aesthetics and employing humble craft techniques, my work explores the subversive power of textiles. I sew by hand or machine to create garments, quilts, wall hangings and embroideries.
My practice is driven by process, taking found text, symbols and imagery as subject matter. Through repetitive handwork, subjects that may feel distant, digital or institutional become softened and familiarised, translated into the visual language of bedspreads, curtains and childhood textiles. Labour functions as both a practical and symbolic gesture; materials become imbued with new significance through time, care and attention in a process of consecration.
My work reflects on my queer identity and how it mediates my relationship with the Anglican church. Having spent most of my life as a choral singer, I have found a profound sense of belonging in the community, exploring the tension of singing with an institution that has historically excluded people like me.
